Saru Thava completed his Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa in 2021. He holds a degree in Politics & Governance from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2018 and returned to his alma mater during Law School to serve as a Teaching Assistant at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, during the first year of its inauguration.
Prior to attending law school, Saru worked as a clerk in the Court Services Division of the Ministry of Attorney General at the Ontario Court of Justice at the Old City Hall Courthouse and Brampton Courthouse. He further spent a year as a clerk with the Assistant Crown Attorney’s Office in Toronto.
In law school, Saru represented the University of Ottawa in the Ontario Trial Lawyer Association Moot Competition in 2019 and was a finalist in the 2018 Nelligan O’Brien Payne Moot Competition. Saru has a lifelong passion for teaching, advocacy, and civil litigation.
He has appeared regularly before the Superior Court of Justice. Saru completed his articles with Steinmetz & Associates in 2022 and has since exclusively practiced plaintiff-side civil litigation.
Saru is passionate in advocating for the rights of clients and is dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for them. He is fluent in Tamil and incorporates his love for Law and his Tamil identity as a member of the Canadian Tamil Professionals Association.
